The 14 ft “Jewel”
is a fibreglass hull, Bermuda sloop rigged sailing dinghy, the original wooden version
designed by Robert N Stone. One of the main objectives of the design was to produce
a robust safe and versatile dinghy that could be used for the family knockabout
day sailor and class racing, but was also light enough to be handled ashore.
The “Jewel” has Main and Jib sails, being
lively, speedy and in every way a positive delight to handle, she has a degree
of stability and sturdiness which has to be tried to be believed. The relatively light weight of the boat
contributes to its ease of launching and recovery. The design allows for
fitting of an outboard motor.
